HOW TO BEST BUILD YOUR BRAND’S VOICE

HOW TO BEST BUILD YOUR BRAND’S VOICE

Every time you post a picture with a caption, post comments and “likes”, or share links or blogs, you are exercising your brand’s voice. Are you being intentional with each social media interaction? If you’re reading this, your answer might be “no”. Building and maintaining an authentic and consistent brand voice is crucial for a business’ success on social media. Believe it or not, your followers take notice of how you interact on social media and often form their opinions of your brand from those interactions. We want to share some ways in which you can build that voice and supply content that makes you stand out, rather than fit in.

  • What is Your Company’s Culture?

Start with your business’ mission statement. This can help guide you towards your brand’s voice. What does your company stand for? What makes you stand out against competing companies? Is your company eco-friendly? Informal? Serious? Your brand’s unique qualities is what forms your company’s culture, and those values should be key characteristics of your brand’s voice.

  • Research Your Target Audience

Building a community is important to the success of any company and their campaigns. Your target audience will either resonate with your content or not. If you find that you are not experiencing the kind of engagement you’re hoping for from your target audience, it could very well be that your brand’s voice isn’t quite the “right voice” yet. Research your target audience. See what does resonate with them and what content they are engaging and responding to. Listening and reaching out directly to your community will only help you find your brand’s voice and further a connection with your target audience.

  • Key Questions

Here’s a list of some questions to ask yourself when in the search for your brand’s voice:

  • If your brand was a person, how would you describe their personality?
  • If your brand was a person, what’s their relationship to your target audience? (friend, teacher, mom/dad, big sister, etc)
  • What do you want your customers to notice and say about your brand?
  • Are there companies that have a similar vibe to your business? Take note of the similarities and key differences that set you apart.
  • Consistency is Key

It’s important to make sure that the content you post is in alignment with your brand’s voice. It may help you to create a document with all the necessary information about your brand’s voice. This is to best ensure that your entire company is aligned in using that voice when creating any marketing materials across the board. Even if you are hiring all external writers, it’s a good idea to create a training course for your team to learn how to write for your brand, just in case the opportunity arises.
